When the clock was set back to 1911, all coal mines in Britain were equipped with canaries, which served as a "warning". This type of bird is particularly sensitive to toxic gases such as carbon monoxide that are difficult for humans to detect. Whenever a fire or explosion occurs in the mine, rescue workers will bring the canary into the underground. Once the canary shows an uneasy reaction, rescue workers and miners receive a danger signal and immediately evacuate.
This warning plan lasted for 70 years until 1986, when it gradually bid farewell to the miners.
Preventive measures are the top priority of all measures. From this perspective, the early warning system is a more important guarantee for coal mines.
Disaster detection accuracy reaches 90%
China is a country with more Coal mining in the world, and also a country with more serious rock burst disasters. According to statistics, there are currently 329 rock burst mines in China, and 253 are currently being mined. Coal mine rock burst not only poses great harm to itself, but also induces major disasters such as abnormal gas emission and gas explosion.
In recent years, with the increasing depth and intensity of coal resource mining, rock dynamic phenomena such as rock burst have become increasingly severe, and rock burst has become one of the main disasters faced in the field of deep resource mining. Dou Linming, a professor at China University of Mining and Technology, said: "The deeper the coal mine is mined, the greater the mine pressure is. Generally, if the mining depth exceeds 400 meters, there is a danger. The danger factor is relatively high when the burial depth is 1000 meters. At present, the deeper the coal mine in China has reached 1500 meters underground."
Fortunately, in the face of this "unfamiliar pressure", there are already ways to "alleviate" it. After the scientific research achievements of China University of Mining and Technology have been applied in many coal mines, the above accidents can be avoided.

In 2013 and 2014, the State Administration of Production Supervision and Administration and the Coal in China Association organized technicians to appraise the achievements of the "Research on time-space monitoring and early warning technology of microseisms caused by coal mine pressure" and "CT prediction principle and technology of coal mine pressure shock waves" developed by China University of Mining and Technology, all of which have reached the industry priority.
Target by the end of the 13th Five Year Plan: Coal mines reaching over 90%
